Mini Scarpa Mosaic – Scarpetta

Mini Scarpa Mosaic – Scarpetta

The 'Scarpetta' is a masterful study in scale and architectural reduction. While it faithfully retains the exact geometric proportions and interlocking rhythm of Carlo Scarpa’s original 1957 Negozio Olivetti floor, this mosaic is executed at nearly half the size of our Original Wide Joint format.

By scaling down the tesserae, the Scarpetta creates an incredibly dense, intricate surface. The relationship between the natural stone and the generous grout channels becomes more concentrated, resulting in a highly dynamic visual texture. This smaller scale makes it an exceptional choice for wrapping curved architectural features, lining intimate bathroom envelopes, or creating tactile kitchen splashbacks where the discipline of the pattern can be observed up close.

While it can be machine-honed for a flat, terrazzo-like finish, the Scarpetta is especially beautiful when traditionally hand-grouted. This installation method allows the grout to subtly fall away from the irregular, artisan-cut edges of the miniature stones, highlighting their natural undulations and creating a beautifully pillowed, haptic surface.

Bespoke Stone Specification

The Mini Scarpetta is an inherently bespoke offering designed for complete architectural customization. While we have prototyped and photographed this exquisite geometric format in classic, luminous Calacatta marble, its true potential lies in its versatility.

This format can be custom-fabricated in any natural stone required by your design narrative—whether that is the moody depths of a Tumbled Bardiglio, the earthen warmth of Roman Travertine, or the graphic intensity of Calacatta Viola.

As a highly specialized custom product, the Mini Scarpetta requires a minimum order quantity and carries a typical fabrication lead time of 6–8 weeks. Please contact our team to discuss specifying this format in the exact stone and finish your project demands.

Available in a multitude of stone finishes, this mosaic can be customised to the project if a stock solution is not a perfect fit.

In addition to the different stones, two different joint widths are available;

Wide Jointed – True to the original form, generally the mosaic is laid, filled with grout and then the whole surface honed back to give a monolithic hard surface.

Narrow Joined – An easier to install mosaic which uses more standard grout joint width, not requiring any specialty installation.
