Moroccan Zellige Cirque Trapezoid
Zellige Cirque Trapezoid Collection
The Cirque Trapezoid represents a striking geometric evolution of traditional Moroccan Zellige. While deeply rooted in the centuries-old artisanal heritage of Fez, this profile breaks away from the conventional square module to introduce a dynamic, tessellating rhythm to the architectural plane. It is a format that marries ancient materiality with a distinctly contemporary, graphic energy.
Measuring 90x90mm, each trapezoidal tile is a unique testament to human craftsmanship. Crafted from raw, regional clay, they are kneaded, shaped, and chiseled by hand before being fired in traditional olive-pit kilns. This elemental process ensures the material's signature "perfect imperfections." The face of every tile is uniquely undulating, the edges are distinctly irregular, and the glaze pools with varying depths and opacity across the surface.
In application, the alternating angles of the trapezoid interlock to create sweeping horizontal bands and a compelling geometric tension. When graced by natural light, the subtle irregularities of the hand-formed clay and the rhythmic grout lines transform a static vertical plane into a highly tactile, luminous feature. Due to the artisanal nature of the soft glaze, this collection is exclusively specified for vertical applications, making it the definitive material for crafting immersive bathroom envelopes, tactile kitchen splashbacks, or profound architectural feature walls that command attention.
Presented in a highly curated palette of 5 distinct colours, the Cirque Trapezoid allows for a bespoke and deeply grounded design response:
-
Clay: A raw, earthen tone that celebrates the authentic, unadorned nature of baked Moroccan terracotta.
-
Emerald: A profound, jewel-like green characterized by intense depth and the dynamic pooling of traditional glazes.
-
Lily: A quiet, pearlescent white that brings a soft, luminous subtlety to a minimalist or highly textured space.
-
Sage: A restorative, nuanced grey-green that introduces a calm, biophilic energy to the vertical plane.
-
Wheat: A warm, sun-baked neutral offering an inviting, organic softness that bridges modern and historic design languages.
