Arialuce Breeze Blocks

Marca Corona Arialuce: Decorative Terracotta Breezeblocks for Light & Style

The Arialuce collection represents a definitive return to the sculptural heritage of the breeze block, re-engineered for high-end contemporary architecture. Born from a prestigious collaboration between Marca Corona and the historic S. Anselmo brickworks in Italy, this series of terracotta lattice tiles moves beyond mere partition; it is a structural system designed to manipulate light, shadow, and air.

In an era of flat, clinical surfaces, Arialuce introduces a rigorous tectonic rhythm. By layering these three-dimensional terracotta forms, designers can create semi-permeable architectural screens that ground a project in materiality while maintaining a sense of spatial weightlessness. The thermal mass of the Italian terracotta provides a cooling, tactile presence, making it the essential specification for external courtyards, sun-shaded facades, and immersive interior divisions.

The Sculptural Geometries

The collection is defined by three distinct geometric apertures, each offering a unique visual cadence and light-filtering quality:

  • Asole (Slot): A disciplined, 120x240mm rectangular form. Its elongated void creates a powerful horizontal or vertical rhythm, reminiscent of mid-century modernism. It is the definitive choice for creating tall, linear screens that provide privacy without compromising the flow of air.

  • Pertuse (Square): A 200x200mm square format with a central, curved opening. This geometry offers a more balanced, traditional lattice read, casting intricate, rounded shadows that shift dramatically throughout the day.

  • Curve: A 120x120mm arched form. Its smaller scale and soft, undulating lines invite a more delicate, ornamental application, perfect for detailed feature walls or smaller architectural voids.

The Material Palette: Earth & Glass

To provide total aesthetic control, the Arialuce archive is held in three curated finishes that highlight the raw and refined states of terracotta:

  • Naturale: The quintessential warm, earthen terracotta. A raw, matte finish that connects the built environment directly to the clay's geological origins.

  • Avorio (Ivory): A sophisticated, sun-bleached neutral. This matte finish offers a softer, more subtle alternative to raw clay, harmonising effortlessly with limestone and timber.

  • Bianco Glassa: A luminous white glaze. This glossy, reflective finish introduces a high-contrast architectural brilliance, catching and bouncing light across the surface of the lattice structure.

Atelier Specifications

  • Finishes: Naturale (Matte) | Avorio (Matte) | Bianco Glassa (Gloss)

  • Application: External Screens & Facades | Internal Dividers | Sun-Shading | Commercial & Residential

  • Michael’s Note: "The Arialuce series is my preferred tool for 'shaping' light. While most materials simply reflect light, these blocks allow you to design the shadows. For a truly monumental impact, I recommend specifying the Asole in Bianco Glassa. When stacked vertically as a full-height courtyard screen, the white glaze catches the sun in a way that makes the entire wall feel like a living, breathing architectural sculpture."
